IMPORTANT SECURITY UPDATE FOR PROVISIONAL LICENCE HOLDERS

###IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!!###

####CHANGES TO THE SECURITY INDUSTRY & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS####

As you may have heard, there are some significant changes occurring in the NSW Security Industry. As usual, many different rumours are circulating through the industry as to what these changes are and how they will affect licensed guards working in the industry.
SLED released an explanatory newsletter on Tuesday 16/10/12. Details below-

##PROVISIONAL LICENSING
On 1 November 2012, provisional licences under the Act will be abolished.  On that date, holders of provisional licences will be taken to hold the corresponding class 1 licence (NON-PROVISIONAL)  subclass subject to a condition imposed on their licence under section 23E of the Act that they attain all the units of competency required for their licence subclass/es by 1 November 2013.  The condition requires the licensee to undertake and complete to the satisfaction of the Commissioner, such instruction, training and assessment as may be required by the Commissioner.

###As of 1 November 2012, supervision requirements currently imposed on Provisional licence holders will cease. All current provisional licence holders will be still need to complete additional classroom based training/assessment before 1 November 2013 if they have not yet commenced workplace assessments.###

###This must be completed prior to1 November 2013.###

###The Commissioner’s instruction, training and assessment requirements will be communicated in the week commencing 22 October 2012.  The requirements will outline that licensees must complete classroom-based post-licence training and assessment currently being developed by the SLED that will be introduced on 1 April 2013.  Licensees will not be permitted to attain the units of competency through any other assessment pathway.

The only exception to this rule will be for licensees that satisfactorily completed one or more workplace assessment/s with an “Approved Organisation” prior to 1 November 2012.  These licensees may elect to complete their workplace assessments with the same “Approved Organisation” or undertake and complete to the satisfaction of the Commissioner the classroom-based post-licence training and assessment that will be introduced on 1 April 2013.

###Current provisional licence holders that have already completed 1 or more workplace assessments can choose to either complete the remainder of their workplace assessments, or after 1 April 2013 complete the classroom based training/assessment.###

###This must be completed prior to 1 November 2013.###

###Commissioner’s instruction, training and assessment requirements will be communicated in the week commencing 22 October 2012.###

Workplace assessments of eligible licensees must be conducted while the licensee is on duty and carrying on licensable security activities for a Master security licensee.
